Final Exam | Irene Veredas Conejo | Bachelor Classical Music | Violin

For her final Bachelor's exam, Irene Veredas Conejo presents a very personal performance in which the audience will witness moments from a day in her life. As an interdisciplinary artist, she keeps some of her sculptures, drafts, and paintings in her home, and these will also be present on stage, which will be set up to resemble her current apartment. Through this performance, Irene also aims to show that art, contrary to what we are often used to, does not need embellishments: music does not always require a performer dressed in formal attire under bright lights, just as sculptures do not need to stand on slender pilars, nor paintings to be in ornate frames.

She also takes a stand against the expectation that women should present themselves artificially on stage, as if we were not valid enough in our most natural appearance. Instead of spending hours on makeup and hairstyling, enduring uncomfortable shoes, and investing in an expensive dress just to step onto a stage, Irene will appear on stage in the clothes she usually wears when practicing music every day — her pijamas.

In addition to listening to a beautiful program that includes pieces such as the Sibelius Violin Concerto and the work that has always been her dream to perform, Debussy's Sonata for Violin and Piano, the audience will experience some genuine and natural moments of a woman’s life — moments that are often stigmatized. They will also listen for he first time to Irene’s last composition,  ‘‘el ruido rojo’’, ‘‘the red noise’’, which reflects the sounds — which to her, music — of her neighborhood, her home, and the people around her. These have accompanied her during her five years of study at ArtEZ Academy of Music.

The performance will take place at Stadkamer, Zwolle at 12 PM on the 23rd of May. The entrance is free and donations are welcome and highly appreciated!
